Brake pads are a compound, not a color
Every pad is a mix of a friction material, a binder that holds it together, and fillers — pressed onto a steel backing plate. What changes between “ceramic” and “semi-metallic” is the recipe, and the recipe controls four things you actually feel:

Ceramic

The weakness is sustained high heat. A base ceramic pad is tuned for a normal duty cycle, and repeated hard stops or long loaded descents can push it past its comfort zone into fade. That doesn’t make ceramic wrong for a TRX — it makes base street ceramic wrong for a TRX that works. Semi-metallic

Severe-duty / carbon-metallic

The cost of that ceiling is character: they can be noisier, dustier, and need more heat before they’re at their best, so cold morning stops feel less sharp than a ceramic.
